Double-Standard 'Justice'

Attorney Vincent J. Rinella, of the Eagleville [Pennsylvania] Hospital and Rehabilitative Center, said that placement of a sentenced substance-abusing offender in a treatment facility in lieu of jail has become very popular as a diversion device among an increasing number of judges. Unfortunately, said Rinella, this is applied more often to drug abusers than it is to young problem drinkers.
