AA Overseas - Group Growth and Activities

During the discussions at the first World Service Conference, Delegates cited two classic instances of the way AA spreads by the efforts of roving members. AA in France, only nine years old now, started with the help of the American group already set up in Paris. In Germany, U. S. soldiers stationed there twelfth-stepped local alcoholics and formed the first German group in 1953, in Munich.

Because of this chain-reaction process, similarities among groups everywhere tend to outweigh the differences. In the Netherlands, weekly discussion meetings often focus on a Step or a Tradition--a familiar practice worldwide. But in Central America, two customs are less familiar: Most groups meet every day, and many go on excursions to twelfth-step other groups.
