A Digest of Advisory Actions

A delegate reports

Once a year, 136 people--93 delegates from the United States and Canada, trustees, directors and GSO employees--gather in New York to attend the General Service Conference of Alcoholics Anonymous. They come together for one purpose: to focus on how AA can improve its ability to help the drunk who still suffers.

This is the pivotal meeting of representatives from all areas of AA in North America, the place where delegates, trustees, directors, and staff gather to survey AA's actual operation--the business of publishing and providing public information and support for the professional community, as well as the business of electing the trustees to serve on the General Service Board. In essence, they gather to improve AA's ability to carry the message and to insure its survival into the future. For the last two years, I have been privileged to attend as a delegate, and it was a mountaintop experience.
