February 2013: Editor's Letter

Many of us struggle with “the God thing” when we first enter AA. Luckily though, by reading our literature and by listening to other members share experience, strength and hope, we find that our journey into Step Two is not an impossible task. In Alcoholics Anonymous, Bill W. assures us that, “As soon as we were able to lay aside prejudice and express even a willingness to believe in a Power greater than ourselves, we commenced to get results.” In this month’s issue, members write about the many different ways they found their Higher Power in AA.

In “Dawn at the Rehab” a woman, broken and angry, unexpectedly finds her Higher Power while on a freezing 5 a.m. smoke break. “That Big Green Thing” is a funny tale about a man who uses a mysterious metal box at his meeting place to be his HP until he can find his own. Similarly, a woman in Texas befriends a red-eared slider, who helps her ease into Step Two in “12-Step Turtle.” And a member’s search for faith takes a happy turn on the San Diego freeway in “School Spirit.”
