We Are Not a Bunch of Religious Fanatics!

A priest takes a look at our all too often distorted public image - From the April 1972 Grapevine

A clear distinction between AA and religion is important, not only for our own peace of mind and intelligent working of the program, but also for the public image that we project. The continuity and growth of AA can depend greatly on what people outside the program think of us and our way of recovery. Unfortunately, this image is not always accurate. Some nonalcoholics, while praising the work of AA in general, are inclined to write us off as some kind of evangelical sect or a bunch of quasi Holy Rollers caught up in Pentecostal enthusiasm.
