The fifth in a series of capsule comments on AA's Twelve Traditions by editors of AA publications all over the world.
SINCE an alcoholic will never be dictated to, I doubt whether he would ever maintain his sobriety if he were subject to any "organization," in the present accepted sense of that word. I feel also that the average AA member realizes that no man can live successfully if he is entirely isolated. He cannot really live happily and contentedly outside of a community.
