Carrying the Message

Personal, but not selfish

I have heard it mentioned that AA is a selfish program. To me this is not entirely so. I find now that it amounts to a continual program of "self," as opposed to "selfish": self-adjustment, self-appraisal, self-regulation. If I worked this as a strictly selfish program, I feel I would not be following the Steps as I see them, especially from the Eighth Step onwards.
