Carrying the Message

'Too young'? Two answers

I just finished reading my January Grapevine, and the two stories "Is There a Generation Gap?" and "Soon I'll Be Sixteen" really got to me.

I took my first "cure" in 1951, at the age of twenty-two. The doctor told me I was too young to be an alcoholic. What beautiful music to my ears! I didn't even have to attend the compulsory AA meetings the rest of the women in the ward went to. I was discharged after seven weeks in the hospital.
