On sponsors and 'teachers'

I am often disconcerted by people who seem content to slide along working only those parts of the program that keep them feeling comfortable. Smugness is not a very good substitute for real sobriety. Smugness is all too often the non-alcoholic's way. I've known many nonalcoholics who do not enjoy what is, in my opinion, real sobriety--emotional sobriety or maturity.
