Defining 'alcoholic'

Much noise is being made by local AAs because, they say, there are many coming into AA who are not alcoholics. Since when is being an alcoholic a requirement for membership? "The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking" (Tradition Three). It doesn't say cut down, taper off, or any of those things most of us tried before we got into AA.

I look at it this way: An alcoholic is a person who wants to stop drinking. If I didn't have a problem with booze, why would I want to quit?
