Drug dilema--two views

R. G. from Lafayette, California, believes it a dangerous trend to "divert the original intent of AA into an all-embracing fellowship including persons with non-alcohol-related problems" (PO Box 1980, August 1980).

Should AA expand the program to include drug abuse (or whatever), I, too, will be dismayed. But if the AA program's rifle shot aimed at alcoholism (R. G.'s metaphor) happens to ricochet to benefit the drug abuser, can we deny that benefit out of some vague fear of program diffusion?
