No 'secret society'

In the August Grapevine, I particularly enjoyed the article on anonymity by W. F. of Centreville, Virginia.

Thirty years ago, people seemed less ashamed of their AA membership and thought nothing of using full names within the group. Lately, however, AA seemingly has turned into a secret society. I attend many meetings, and at most of these, I may know up to thirty people by their first names only and perhaps two by their full names. Thank God for my home group, where we both read and observe this sentence on anonymity found on page 31 in the pamphlet "The AA Group": "Within AA itself, where no stigma is attached to our common illness, we freely exchange our full names."
