Beyond the fringe

When I came to AA, I was constantly reminded, "First Things First." Sobriety, according to the AA program, had to be the priority if I was to get better and put my life in order.

It was at meetings that I learned how to get sober and how to stay/live sober. The time came for me to speak, to carry the message, with other members of my group at open meetings or as the only speaker at closed or Step meetings. It was suggested to me to always gear my qualification to the newcomer. If I do this, I will stick to the program, and that will help all other recovering alcoholics present--and it certainly helps me.
