Anonymity--a personal decision

The article on five aspects of anonymity in the September Grapevine got me thinking that there's more to anonymity than I had thought. Although many would probably agree with the writer's statement that there's no anonymity within AA, I don't. The long form of Tradition Three says: "Nor ought AA membership ever depend upon money or conformity."

For example, some of us have only our first names on our name badges at AA conventions for personal reasons. Others, like me, do this for the benefit of AAs who want to use only their first names but feel a little intimidated by those who use full names. I want to let them know that it's okay to be anonymous in AA.
