Responsibility

I have experiences to share with John R., Santa Barbara, Calif. (October, 1991 Grapevine, "What Is an Enabler?")

I, too, have attended closed AA meetings where a number of addictions are addressed. When it is my turn to comment, if necessary, I do take the opportunity to express Tradition Three: "The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking." Coupled with a reminder that AA stands for "Alcoholics Anonymous," not "Addictions Anonymous," this often serves both sides of the issue: those who would not have one word about anything other than alcohol abuse, and those who would focus only on addiction to something other than alcohol.
