To a Gallant Band a Toast!

SINCE I am the husband of an alcoholic's wife, I want to pay a tribute and offer a toast (a dry one, of course) to that gallant band of women--the long suffering wives of alcoholics. Alcohol is a pick-up and let-down--it picks up the husbands and lets down the wives. We, who have at last found the courage to face reality, have decided to take a quick journey into the past and, with an open mind, try to learn just what effect our abnormal drinking had on these wives.
