I Went to Scoff

A LITTLE over two years ago, I attended my first AA meeting. I went in the belief that it might insure my husband's interest and continued sobriety. I had resolved not to seem bored with the people there, even though I was sure that nothing they could say would in any way interest me. My conception of alcoholism at that time could be described very briefly and bluntly: people who overindulged in alcoholic beverages were gluttonous, and they refused to recognize the harmful effects of this pernicious practice.
