We Cast Aside Our Burden

WE remember with immense pleasure the extreme sense of relief we felt, when we were first able to cast aside some of those ponderous burdens to which we were shackled during our latter drinking days. One of these dragging anchors was our double life--our Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde existence. Deliverance from this personality encumbrance has indeed brought us great mental comfort. After that first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, when we realized AA was the answer to our impossible world, we truly felt a wonderful sense of freedom. We knew we would no longer have to constantly put up a phony front. Our continuous struggle to pretend and pretend and pretend was over.
