A Long Way Back

It's a short haul from cornbread to hoe cake. . .

I RECEIVED a letter a few days past from an alcoholic who may or may not be putting forth a serious effort to line himself up with this AA Program. (About that, I am keeping an open mind.) However, buried in a maze of complaintive wordage I encountered the following sentence: "I am still trying to catch up with God." That sentence literally jumped from its hiding place with a frantic bid for attention truly startling by way of its implication. Here, to all intents and purposes, was a lost being chasing madly after a God who was studiously, even with diabolic cruelty, eluding pursuit!
