A Lot of Good Things Happen in the Rain

IN THE November edition of The GRAPEVINE there was a brief paragraph about "not staying away from an AA meeting because of rain." Of course it is an important phase of Twelfth Step work to attend meetings regularly to reassure others that you find meetings important. But from a purely selfish point of view, going to a meeting when it rains (or snows) has another important aspect as I see it: when the weather is bad, or good enough for golf, you can rely on the attendance of the oldest and most successful members of AA regardless of weather. In their minds attendance is vital. Those less interested, or less convinced as to the importance of attending meetings are the ones most likely to fail to attend because of the weather: bad, or good. The more important an AA member regards attendance at meetings, the more he puts into AA, and the more he takes out of AA. I think it's as simple as that.
