This Lonely Tragic Letter

...was read to us by the rector of church where we hold our AA meetings, on the occasion of the group's first anniversary. No, it was not unsuitable. He spoke first, with a beautifully articulated appreciation of what his association with AA had meant to him in the year he had come to know us. He told us how much we had meant to him, in his capacity both as a man of God and as a human being. He was urbane and witty and warm but he was not one of us.
