Act VII No "Elder Statesmen

All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts, His acts being seven ages. Shakespeare's "As You Like It" Act II Scene VII

Act I Discovery

The initial act of sobriety in AA appears to be the discovery that there is indeed an escape from the labyrinth of alcoholism in which the individual alcoholic has become so completely lost. By following other human beings who had been as badly trapped but who have already discovered a path to freedom, one can emerge into the sunlight once more. Sometimes the sunlight seems too dazzling to bear and then the unfortunate alcoholic retreats again into the darkness and the loneliness of his labyrinth but even so he may remember the way out at some later date.
