"You are an alcoholic, and you'd better do something about it." I heard a loud voice saying this as I was lying on the couch in my usual stupor. The last couple of years I had heard a variety of voices, seen many unusual insects and animals--but this, somehow, made an impression. I stumbled to the phone, and after a frantic hour. I finally contacted an AA. That was my first contact--thirteen months ago--and thank God, AA stuck, though not right away. I had trouble twice. But when I knew sobriety was a life and death matter, when I wanted it more than anything in life, and when I asked God to help me achieve it--the way was made clear to me.
