The Unending Pursuit of Humility

During the long days and nights of my drinking career, I was always able to twist facts so that I would look good to myself. I could stand there at the bar at the start of a binge, turn the shot glass in my fingers, and regard my relatively dean and prosperous-looking self in the bar mirror with considerable satisfaction.

"Boy," I'd say to myself, "you look pretty sharp. You certainly lend class to this joint."
