AUTHOR'S INTRODUCTION: In the last hundred years or so, an awful lot has been written about the evils of drink and the virtues of giving it up. This undoubtedly makes excellent reading for all those people who have not experienced the joys to be derived from this oldest of the avocations, but it is hardly comforting to the rest of us.
