BEN, AT the apex of a prolonged slip, was scooped up by members of his AA group and bedded down in a drying-out spot. Medication failed to knock him out. Goaded by the inside leaps, he struggled to his feet and at 12:01 AM began unsteadily pacing the corridors of the twitch farm, past the doors of slumbering patients and staff members. Ben was "the first one up this morning."
