AA Cliches

Like AA lingo, these also contribute to greater understanding among us

A NEW FRIEND, a fellow member of AA, reminded me of an objection I once had against AA's program of recovery. Like most men and women new to the Twelve Steps, I did a lot of fault-finding. After much procrastination, I finally got off my backside and managed to start attending meetings, paying close attention, trying to understand everything said. I felt a little cocky, because I was finally doing something about my problem, so the constant repetition of cliches disturbed me a great deal. I resented their use, believing that they cheapened the quality of communication between people.
