A Story in Canceled Checks. . .

THE OTHER day, I discovered in my files the original listing of all my canceled bank checks for March 1955--the last month before I quit drinking, dried out for six days at Henry MacMullan's "twitch farm" in Carmel, N. Y., and joined AA. Three of the last checks were drawn by my then wife to pay the milk bill, phone bill, and grocery bill. The final check paid Henry.
