You Speak So Nice to Each Other

THERE WAS ONE person present throughout the entire 1977 AA General Service Conference who was a member neither of the Conference nor of AA--the man who did the tape-recording. Vince was a nice-looking, middle-aged man, who spoke with a heavy accent, possibly Greek.

For Vince, the Conference was a spiritual experience.

On Monday at coffee break, he stopped the Conference vice-chairman and asked, "Why you say, 'I am an alcoholic'? You mean, you were alcoholic."

"No" was the reply. "We still are, because if we were to take a drink, we'd be as bad off as...
