Twenty-five Thousand Sober Alcoholics

AFTER THE International Convention in Denver in 1975, my nonalcoholic (Al-Anon) wife was trying to explain to a civilian friend why she had had such a marvelous and exhilarating time.

"First of all," she explained, "you have to picture 20,000 people all of whom would be dead if it weren't for each other! Then," she continued, "you've got 20,000 people from all over the country and all over the world hugging and kissing each other the whole time. It's the damnedest thing you ever saw!"
