At Home in a Group

I WAS RELUCTANT to look for sobriety, and the last place I wanted to look for it was in AA. I truly felt that someday I could (and would) just quit drinking all by myself, when and if I wanted to. I was completely against the idea of my right to drink being taken away from me by a group of complete strangers.

But I did come into AA, in June 1968. With very little effort, I made a complete, complicated mess of the simple AA program. It was easy. I just kept slipping a few juice glasses of low-grade sherry into my system whenever I felt the need, and I seemed to feel the need quite often.
