A 'Charlie Brown' Tree

CHRISTMAS WAS coming, and I had defiantly announced to everyone who would listen that I was bravely prepared to go into my annual depression. No, I wouldn't drink over being without my children at Christmas. I would just suffer. Gallantly.

Living in Norway is usually wonderful, particularly now that we have a thriving, growing bilingual AA group. But Christmas seems to be my low point. Two children live and go to university in the United States, and there is no extra money to pay for air tickets. The third daughter lives in Norway, but for reasons I have not been fully able to understand, she has decided to reject Christmas.
