A Foot in the Revolving Door

AS A SOBER AA, I have spent many years carrying the AA message to alcoholics in many kinds of institutions--prisons, detoxes, rehabs, and various types of treatment centers. Also, I have spent much time with the drunks on the New York City Bowery, bringing AA meetings into shelters and charity organizations for homeless men and women.

All this involvement in carrying the message to active alcoholics who are confined and/or homeless has helped keep me from picking up a drink, one day at a time; indeed, it has been the mainstay of my sobriety. Without a continuous effort to reach out to the active drunk, I would be lost.
