The Work at Hand

There's the chirrup of a sparrow, the rhythmic tak-tak-tak of a woodpecker, and a low, steady roar from the Interstate, I have stopped work for a moment to rest my racing brain and listen to the silence. When I stop thinking, I find that it isn't silent at all. Even out here, miles from the city, life makes itself heard.
