Urban Renewal

Her face, her story, her name are long lost to me, but here is what she said: "For me, recovery in AA has been like the city of Berlin after the war. The day I came in, the bombing stopped. When the smoke finally cleared, I saw that I was left in a city in ruins. My work first was to clear away the debris. Then to assess the damage. Then to decide what buildings I would keep, which I would have removed, what new ones I would build in their place, and which lots I would leave empty. It was wonderful work, this building of a city that is my life. And the best part is knowing it will never be done."
