The Penny Pot

Having first met AA in March of 1964, I have learned many things, not least of which is: "If I don't take a drink today, I can't get drunk today." But I am not here to write my story. I'd like to share something with all my fellow AAs concerning our need to be self-supporting through our own contributions. The economy has hit everyone--including our service centers--very hard. There are also new members who may not have used their resources too wisely in the past (other than to hold back something to cure a hangover--like I did). We also have members visiting us from treatment centers and shelters in the area. A large number of these friends have a hard time coughing up a buck for the kitty when the time comes to close the meeting, so they feel apart from, rather than a part of, the group and AA.
