They Kept Me Sober

The first successful Twelfth Step call I took came from a woman who was a high mucketey-muck in the WCTU. She had chopped up plenty of beers in her time but was unable to stop her son from drinking. She told me that he hadn't been able to quit drinking after he came home from the war. She said if I'd come over and see him, she'd be sure he was at home. This was early in 1947 and we were taking anything we could get, so I called on him.
