A Textbook Case

When the alcoholic was ready, the teachers appeared

After my divorce, and after my three children had left for college, I began to pacify myself before bed each night, with a vodka and orange juice--to sleep, I told myself. It wasn't long before I was having two or three. I wasn't hurting anyone. I was just fine. I thought, "Now I am on my own. I can do what I want for a change." I was teaching full time, and loving it. My job was my life! Each day I came home tired but fulfilled and I would eat, drink, and go to sleep. My drink was vodka, because no one can smell it, so I was told.
