An Unscientific Study

Where have all the old-timers gone? That's an ever more frequently asked question around Alcoholics Anonymous these days. Like many others, I have been aware of the thinning out of old-timers at meetings and have made a serious if unscientific study for several years.

First, my vantage point: In calendar terms, I am indeed an old-timer, sixty-nine years old to be exact. I am often the oldest person at a meeting. In terms of sobriety I am approaching what some call a middle-timer--nine years. There are often many people at those meetings with more sobriety than I have, but not as many with twenty-plus years as there once were.
