Growth Allowed

As more and more people recover through the AA program, there should be significantly more people with longer lengths of sobriety. But as I look around the meetings, I see fewer and fewer people with long-term sobriety. Most people have under five years.

When I first came to AA, I needed all the discussion meetings I could get about the Big Book, the Steps, the Traditions, living sober, prayer and meditation, and all the other topics that we use to help the newcomer. The repetition of those topics sank into my befuddled brain, and I grew in sobriety and serenity. As I became able to help others, I felt good about sharing what I'd learned with those who were newer than I was.
