The World's Shortest Case History

IT was the last week of a month of continuous drinking. I, Margery, had lost another job, no money and had been given notice to leave a grim and dirty back room, dare not get in touch with my friends (if by this time I had any left!) This was the end of my tether, what could I do? Where could I turn? I was advised by a past employer to go to a local doctor, he advised me to write AA. I did (borrowing a stamp to do so!) A member contacted me, we had a long talk (which didn't at the time convey much to me) and had coffee; most odd I thought. At last a glimmer of hope, certain that this time I would be all right, just like that. . .how easy it seemed! It took me one year, after many slips, to truly realize what AA really was doing; but, it took my last serious slip, when again I was losing another job, that the AA program seeped through my disturbed mind. Today I am deeply grateful, as we all are, for the "try and try again" blessings of AA and I do live "just for today."
