When AA Doctors Meet

I'VE JUST returned from the latest convention of International Doctors in AA, held in Palm Beach, Fla. The first days were devoted to the medical and technical aspects of the detoxification and rehabilitation of alcoholics as managed by physicians and others, all of whom either are in AA or are AA-oriented. The rest of the convention was essentially devoted to AA meetings, working with newcomers, and talking about how doctors stay sober while surrounded by alcohol, drugs, and pills. One member, referring to the samples of tranquilizers and sleeping pills that came in the mail, said, "While other doctors were reading their mail, I was eating mine."
