Powerless Over the Pain

The emotional pain of life was a reason I drank. A macho man from Texas, I didn't handle pain well. And if I had physical pain, I wanted it over right then. Alcohol was fine for stopping the pain.

Now I've been sober in the Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous since December 23, 1975, and after all these years I'm experiencing my first sober earache.
