A Breakthrough--A Miracle

From Area A Formguide, August 1998

My name is Kevin and I'm an alcoholic. I'm not ashamed of being afflicted by this disease of alcoholism. It just happens that I am also a diabetic and, isn't it interesting, no one expects me to be ashamed of having that disease, or any other disease. If I can accept that alcoholism is a disease, then why should I or anyone else be ashamed of having this particular disease?

It was not by accident that I became an alcoholic because when I was born I was fitted out with the apparel of an alcoholic--a body that was to become allergic to the drug alcohol and a mind susceptible to addiction, particularly addiction to the drug alcohol. My metabolism can't handle alcohol and I can't control my mind when I take this drug.
