I was not supposed to be sitting in a bar, staring at liquor bottles and beer taps on my first sobriety birthday. The place felt awkward and uncomfortable, an insult to all my hard work. A ball of self-pity, I glanced at the bartender who was wiping a glass clean and looked at the other bar patrons caught up in animated chatter.
