It seems to me that Step Five is especially difficult for men because it takes the masculine mystique by the bull, if not always by the horns. A man is supposed to be self-reliant. He takes care of his own affairs. He doesn't go to another man with personal problems. A man's feelings are validated by a woman, not by another man.
