There Is No Free Lunch

Tradition 7 - Every AA group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions.

Everything in the world costs something--in both material and spiritual spheres. Just think for a moment: What costs nothing? Some say courtesy costs nothing or love costs nothing, but that's not so. Even these virtues call for humility and unselfishness. So, without splitting hairs, it does cost some effort to get anything or to give anything. Even love itself can cost heartaches if it's not understood.

In AA, minor cash costs are incurred when just a few people voluntarily meet together. The cost of hiring a meeting place is real. Other incidental costs grow along with the group.
