Tradition One: Our common welfare should come first; personal recovery depends upon AA unity.

I was taught from the very beginning by the old-timers that my life and that of my group had to be built around AA's Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions. I was warned that the penalty for extensive disobedience to these principles is death for the individual and dissolution for the group. Our common welfare had to come first.
