Responses from readers to the question, "Where do you intend to be on New Year's Eve?"
Throughout my life, and even in twelve years and nine months of sobriety, I've made decisions based on my fear of being alone. Those decisions always put me in a position to be hurt. I have finally learned this, so for the past seventeen months, I've lived on my own--not only free of alcohol, but free of dependencies and free of welfare. This is the first time in almost twenty-three years that I have lived independently. I am free.
