A MOUNTAINTOP EXPERIENCE

I am a big skier and decided, last March, to take the trip of a lifetime: helicopter skiing for a week in Alaska. I had talked about doing this for years--while sitting on bar stools. Sober, I decided to actually go and do it.

It was the trip of a lifetime, but not the kind I had imagined.

Alaska is beautiful, and is definitely the last frontier, unspoiled and rural, not many roads and the largest "cities" were towns compared to Boston. The first day was incredible skiing. Eight mountains in one day, untracked. It was wonderful.
